Bad Ischl Brass Band’s Imperial Party

Every year on 15 August, the "Kaiserfest" takes place to commemorate the traditional birthday celebrations during the emperor's lifetime. This festival has become a fixture in Ischl's calendar of events.

The Bad Ischl civic band was founded in 1870 and took part in the annual festivities on the eve of the Emperor's birthday from 1871. As can be seen from the chronicle of the Bürgerkapelle, the band played in a boat on the Traun, in front of the fountain on today's Schröpferplatz or in the pavilion on the Esplanade. When the Bürgerkapelle was asked to organise a festival in 1982, it became aware of the tradition, and so the Kaiserfest is still organised by the Bürgerkapelle every year on 15 August.
