Pfarrkirche Sankt Georgen am Fillmannsbach

St. Georgen am Fillmannsbach, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The parish church of Sankt Georgen am Fillmannsbach is a single-nave Gothic church. The west tower is still preserved in its old form. The church is built from unplastered conglomerate stone and has a high gabled roof with hipped roofs above the chancel. The parish church is visible from afar, as it is situated at an altitude of 490 metres above sea level.
The history of the church: A document from Emperor Henry III from 1040 mentions a "capella s. Georgii martiris" at Wildsteig. In 1407, the foundation of a weekly mass in Sankt Georgen is mentioned in a document. Around 1650, an infection cemetery was laid out around the church. In 1757, a new high altar was erected; the high altarpiece depicts St George, the patron saint of the church. In 1785 Sankt Georgen, previously a branch of the parish of Feldkirchen, became a local church in its own right and in 1811 an independent parish. A new vicarage is built in 1792.
