Obstlehrgarten St. Marienkirchen

The fruit teaching and variety garden of the St. Marienkirchen/P. fruit and horticultural association is a reserve for indigenous fruit varieties.

With the planting of a variety garden in 1996, the St. Marienkirchen/P. Fruit Growers' Association began to specifically collect the old fruit varieties common in the region. Since then, over 100 apple, almost 70 pear and several cherry and plum varieties have been collected.
The focus is on the typical cider fruit varieties, but popular dessert fruit varieties are also represented in the orchard.
The varieties have been grafted onto a total of 110 mother trees. Around 20 trees are multi-variety trees with up to seven varieties per tree. The orchard is bordered by a hedge with various varieties of wild berries.

Aims and services of the fruit teaching and variety garden:
* Preservation of indigenous, old fruit varieties
* Information on selecting varieties and planting and caring for trees
* Events and courses on the subject of fruit trees

There is also an educational fruit tree pruning trail, which shows the most important basics of pruning fruit trees. Five display boards show you how to prune the tree from planting to old age.
