Pfarrkirche Utzenaich

Utzenaich, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The parish church
The parish church of Maria Königin mit dem Jesuskind stands slightly lowered next to the thoroughfare. The main building is in the Gothic style (single-nave nave with ribbed vaulting). The side chapel is baroque. The design of the tower is particularly attractive. The square ground plan of the tower merges into an octagon on the upper floor. The exterior was extensively renovated in 2008. The original tower cornices were also reinstalled. The forecourt was also redesigned.
The main altar is neo-Gothic, the life-size figures are Renaissance masterpieces. The marble baptismal font dates back to the Gothic period. In the side chapel, which is dedicated to St Florian, there are figures from the Schwanthaler workshop. The stucco work by Kaspar Modler is also marvellous.
The parish of Utzenaich is looked after by the neighbouring parish of St. Martin i. I.
The parish history
The name Utzenaich was first mentioned in a document in 1140. It is possible, but not proven, that there was already a church at this time. The church is first mentioned in a document in 1379. From the 11th century onwards, attempts were made to create a parish network with clearly defined pastoral parishes. This network probably developed in the 12th century.
Utzenaich was a branch of the greater Taiskirchen parish from 1200. From 1334 to 1467, the parish was an incorporated parish of Reichersberg Abbey. Utzenaich was already referred to as a "parish" in documents from 1481.
At the end of the 16th century, a new deanery division was probably carried out in Bavaria and thus in the Innviertel. At this time, Utzenaich belonged to the deanery of Eberschwang. At the end of the 18th century, Utzenaich was assigned to the deanery of Schärding. When the diocese of Linz was founded around 1783, the deanery of Schärding had to cede some parishes, including Utzenaich, to the deanery of Altheim. In 1882, Utzenaich was finally removed from the Altheim deanery and incorporated into the Ried deanery. In 1883, the establishment of an independent parish in Utzenaich was announced. Until 1939, however, the parish priest of Taiskirchen was still in charge of the presentation.
