Marktgemeindeamt Taiskirchen

Taiskirchen im Innkreis, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Historical development of the municipality of Taiskirchen:
Taiskirchen is first mentioned in a deed of gift from St Nikola's Abbey near Passau in 1120 as "Tagedineschirchen" and in 1130 as "Tagidischirchin". The name "Tagedineschirchen" is derived from the proper names "Tagadie" or "Tagadin", which indicates that there was once a place of judgement in what is now Taiskirchen. The current spelling is first found in the parish register of deaths in 1687.
The former seat of the nobles of Taiskirchen is probably to be found where the "Schloßbauer am Krempl" estate (Helfingsdorf) now stands. It was probably a castle complex, but the noble family died out in 1180.
Four houses in the village of Kühdobl also bore the name "Am Markt" (innkeeper, farmer, weaver). This suggests an earlier trading centre.
The village of Taiskirchen has constantly developed. Today, around 2510 people live here on an area of 34.53 square kilometres.
Pupils from five neighbouring communities attend the Taiskirchen secondary school. Two large and several medium-sized companies provide work for locals as well as commuters from the surrounding area. Taiskirchen is also one of the largest agricultural communities in the district of Ried im Innkreis.
Monuments:
- Gumpinger cross: A cross with Christ and Mary, around five metres high. Both farms in Gumping burnt down in 1875. This cross was erected as a result.
- Plague column
- Franciscan cross: The wayside shrine shows a priest being dragged along by a horse. According to oral tradition, this priest was dragged to death during the French wars because he did not raise the money demanded by the French.
- Weather cross: The weather cross was erected in 1869 due to heavy storms and thunderstorms. The cross is around five metres high. The instruments of Christ's suffering are depicted on it.
Another object worth seeing is the more than 500-year-old oak tree, the so-called "Sepperl-Eiche" in Paulusberg. It has a considerable circumference: 7.10 metres at pole height and 5.70 metres at breast height.
Sports and leisure facilities:
The reservoir in the village of Altmannsdorf is an ideal and popular place for ice skating and curling in winter. In summer, the reservoir is an insider tip for adventurers who enjoy camping and is also ideal for fishing.
UNION Fit-Treff: Many people from Taiskirchen have been using the woods for running for several years. For this reason, interested people and members of the Union set up a running route in the blueberry forest in 1999. The route is marked and signposted.
Taiskirchen also has three tennis courts, a football pitch with a new stand, a newly built asphalt curling hall, a music school, a cycle track and a beach volleyball court. In winter, the ski lift on Kinzenberg is in operation. In addition to these leisure activities, the Taiskirchen clubs offer a wide range of activities such as gymnastics, yoga, dancing, etc.
