Pfarrkirche Schwand im Innkreis

Schwand parish church is a single-nave Gothic building. The first information about the church dates back to 1390; Provost Ulrich II of Ranshofen Abbey lent the church in Schwand, which previously belonged to the parish of Neukirchen, to Ranshofen Abbey.
In 1497, the foundation stone for the tower was laid by the canon and chaplain Caspar Türndl; the material came from the demolished Ratzlhof Castle at the confluence of the Inn and Salzach rivers. The church was destroyed by the troops of Duke Ruprecht of the Palatinate in 1504. The church was rebuilt and extended between 1521 and 1527 and has had its present appearance since then. Schwand became an independent parish in 1785.
As the inhabitants of the parish rose to a certain level of prosperity through their particular industriousness and prudence, the term "golden parish" was coined.
