Kapelle Maria Aich

Aurolzmünster, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Maria Aich is the oldest and probably the most interesting chapel in the parish of Aurolzmünster, which is also the subject of several legends.

The Maria Aich Chapel was built in 1744 by the Austrian Count Paul Karl von Palffy, k.k. General, around a hollow oak tree.
The reason why the general built a chapel here on the road from Ried to Schärding is probably due to the accident he suffered at this spot.
According to one story, he was thrown from his horse, which had become skittish, and dragged. In gratitude for his rescue, he vowed to build a chapel.
