As of March 01, 1944, inmates of the satellite camp Gusen II were forced to dig a 28K tunnel system into the sandstone hill. The tunnels were then used as a subterranean plant where Messerschmitt combat aircraft was constructed.Visits to a Memorial Tunnel will be available as of the year 2003.
