St. Mary's Pilgrimage Church

The pilgrimage church of St Mary is situated on a hill at 842 metres above sea level and offers a magnificent view of the hilly landscape of the Mühlviertel and the mountains. The church is a popular excursion destination in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria, located on the Johannesweg, the Kaltenberg circular hiking trails and the Tour de Alm. Kaltenberg is particularly popular as a wedding venue. The idyllic church on the mountain with a large forecourt including a beer fountain and the Kaltenbergerhof inn in the immediate vicinity make your wedding perfect.

About the church:
The idyllically situated church was built as a chapel in 1658, enlarged in 1781 and in 1785 Kaltenberg became its own parish. From 1798 to 1803, the present church was built, which is dedicated to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. It consists of a single-nave nave and 2 pairs of double pilasters divided into 3 bays. A late Gothic Madonna from the first half of the 15th century with a Joachim Prugger organ adorns the church.
