Großdöllnerhof Outdoor Farm Museum

The open-air museum Großdöllnerhof is located in the midst of a beautiful nature park landscape. This 400-year-old monument is a nature and cultural education center that offers its visitors an incomparable ambience, an interesting exhibition and selected nature park workshops and courses.

The "Großdöllnerhof" is a typical Mühlviertler three-sided farm. It was last managed full-time by the Pehböck family until 1968. The original appearance of the living quarters has been retained, and the original furnishings give an impression of the poor conditions. Social life mostly took place in the living room, especially in winter. Work such as tying brooms, spinning wool, cutting feathers, making clogs, etc. was done there. The kitchen and parents' bedroom are next to the living room, the tiled stove forms the center of the three rooms. Daughters and maids slept in the "people's chamber" above, but no separate chamber was provided for sons and servants.
In the exhibition "Folk Medicine and Superstition", the Großdöllnerhof presents centuries-old folk medicine practices and rites of healers, weavers and doctors. Until the 20th century, there was hardly any conventional medical care in rural areas. The dependence on nature was great and fueled all sorts of wondrous ideas of ghosts, disease-causing worms, healers and witches. Museum tours are possible for groups of 12 or more by prior arrangement.
