True to the quote from the Swiss educationalist Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827) ‘Contemplation is the foundation of all knowledge’, ‘Museum in der Schule’ in Taufkirchen an der Pram combines the themes of school and museum in a unique way.

Originating from the need to create teaching aids for realistic and practical lessons, a lively collecting activity began in the 1950s, which led to the secondary school in Taufkirchen an der Pram being the only school in Austria to have its own museum with natural historyfolklore and cultural history collections.

As a lively and attractive component of the Upper Austrian museum landscape, the museum offers its visitors a cross-section of the geological structure, the natural and natural history features and the way of life of the people in the border region between the Inn, Danube and Pram rivers based on selected themes under the motto ‘Taufkirchen an der Pram - Habitat Pramtal’.

Selected cultural-historical and folkloristic themes, such as the once flourishing dairy industry, the first oil discoveries in Austria and outstanding objects of popular piety can be admired, as can the works of prominent local artists, above all Margret Bilger and Alfred Kubin, which can be marvelled at in the museum's picture gallery.

A unique collection of instruments attracts music-loving visitors to Taufkirchen. A large library and a sheet music archive are available to a scientifically interested public.

However, the ‘Museum in School’ not only aims to promote visualisation, but also poses contemporary and present-day questions that arise from the exploration of the museum's themes. ‘Learn and grasp, participate and reflect’ is at the centre of the museum experience.
