The present Traun Castle stands on the foundations of a 12th century moated castle.

By the end of the 16th century the Castle was rebuilt. In the year 1725 the Manor received the Baroque appearance you see today. In the 19th century the Castle was almost let gone to rack and ruin. Around 1990 the Manor was completely restored and augmented for cultural purposes.
The ringed wall was refurbished in 1997; currently renovation works are carried out at the Castle Chapel.
