The church is located in Hinterstadt, right next to the Heimathaus
St Ulrich's Church in the Hinterstadt was first mentioned in a document in 1391. However, a first chapel was certainly built on this site as early as the 12th century in connection with the planned construction of the town. It was the starting point for the church consecration festival, which later developed into the St Ulrich's Day fair. In 1458, the judge and council donated a benefice for the church. In 1510, the town acquired the house next to the church for the benefice, which today houses the Heimathaus. From 1550 to 1625, the benefice was held by Protestant clergymen. This period also saw the overpainting of the 15th century Gothic frescoes in St Ulrich's Church.
