St. Johann am Walde

St. Johann am Walde nestles amidst the Kobernausser forest to the south-east of the district of Braunau.

The town of St Johann am Walde stretches across some 40 square kilometers of land, 65 % of which are covered with forests. More than 2,000 people live in the foothills and valleys along the upper Moosbach Valley, reaching as far as Frauschereck at an altitude of 708 m above sea level. St Johann ranks therefore among the highest towns throughout the district and offers magnificent views and vistas of the surrounding countryside as well as a mild climate (fog-free area in fall!).

Thanks to its secluded position in the course of many centuries, St Johann am Walde has successfully maintained its rural character, with ancient traditions still being maintained.

Summer and autumn in the area come with sports and activities to the fore! St Johann am Walde offers 2 sport fields, a marked mountain bike track, 2 asphalt curling alleys, an 18-hole golf course, and a number of magnificent hiking trails (maps to be collected from the community center).
