Some nine kilometers out from Wels, the lovely village of Weißkirchen sprawls along the banks of the Traun River.
Weißkirchen has a long history dating back to Stone Age times. There is evidence of a settlement at Weißkirchen prior to the arrival of the Romans. However, the present village stands on the earthworks of a fort that was probably built by the Romans. Centuries after the Romans arrived, Duke Tassilo founded the Kremsmünster Abbey here in 777 AD and the monks began to cultivate the hides of land that are today´s village of Weißkirchen.
