Route length: approx. 5.5 km
The lush nature in and around Haigermoos offers visitors a wonderful opportunity for a hike through an idyllic forest and moorland landscape.
The starting point for the hike is at the newly built community centre in the middle of Haigermoos (parking available!). We walk a few hundred metres out of the village, past the village fountain. At the end of the village, turn left onto a goods road (also Via Nova pilgrims' path). After about half a kilometre you reach the "Brackwald". Those interested can pause here and view works of art and wooden sculptures along the edge of the forest - created by the former old farmer Georg Felber from Anthalergut. You can also enjoy a magnificent view of the mountains from here if the visibility is good. We then follow the road through the forest and arrive in Ortholling. After a short tarmac section, we turn right along the edge of the forest to the Haigermoos plague cemetery. Leaving the forest again, we come to Hehermoos, turn right, then left again after about two hundred metres and now head towards Hehermooser Moor. The moorland path is a special scenic feature at any time of year. After a short but somewhat steep ascent through a wooded area, we leave the moorland path again and reach a narrow tarmac road on a hill. From here we hike back to Haigermoos.
For those interested in culture:
If you still have time or interest, the Haigermoos double church is a special architectural feature. The Haigermoos parish church is a late Gothic double church from the second half of the 15th century, consisting of an upper and lower church.
The lower church has a two-aisled, three-bay nave with a star-ribbed vault and a slightly recessed one-bay choir with a net vault. Pointed arched doors in the south and north lead to the staircase into the spacious upper church. The late Gothic lily fittings on the doors have been preserved. The single-nave, three-bay nave of the upper church has a net-ribbed vault with spherically curved ribbed sections. The slightly recessed two-bay, net-ribbed vaulted choir closes with three sides of the octagon. The date 1466 on the front arch provides a clue to the date.
