The approx. 4.2 km long circular trail runs from the center of Kirchdorf am Inn in an easterly direction at the foot of the hill and then leads up the hill to Katzenberg on a forest trail. The imposing Katzenberg Castle with a book printing exhibition, which is privately owned, can be visited for groups after prior registration. The Schlosstaverne inn, which belongs to the castle, offers hikers a quiet, comfortable guest garden and invites you to enjoy a stop with home-style cooking. The castle hiking trail leads back down the hill via the so-called Schwemmberg - past a viewing platform with a view of the European nature reserve Unterer Inn - back to Kirchdorf.
There is the option of taking a short stroll through the Katzenberg Castle Park: The entrance to the Castle Park is at the Schlosstaverene inn (admission: €2.00 at the turnstile). The path leads through Kastanienbaumallee and then into the newly designed palace park. A wrought-iron gate leads to the rose garden. Before you come back to Kastanienbaumallee, you can take a look at the old castle and its buildings. Duration: approx. half an hour.
