Distance: 6.5 km Walking time: 2 hours Difference in altitude: ascent and descent 180 m Trail conditions: part asphalt, part gravel, forest paths, some steps
From the starting point, walk through the town centre, to the right of the main church (Stattpfarrkirche) until just before the bus terminal by the entrance to Kaiservilla and turn left onto the Rechensteg. Just after the car park keep to the left and use the Rechengasse. Cross Salzburgerstraße at a pedestrian crossing and go up Leitenberg to a distinctive curve to the left. Here, the ascent to Kalvarienberg Church begins. After the last houses turn right onto the Elisabeth Waldweg. Along the path there are information boards telling the history of the area. The path ends in Pfandl at an asphalted road. At this point you can return to Bad Ischl by following the path along the River (also bus stop).
The main trail climbs uphill to the left (Watch for the Yellow signs) and, after several crossings (left, then right, then left) through meadows with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. At an asphalted road there is a viewing point Leschetitzkyhöhe. Continue on the Rudolf von Altweg (actually a side street) to the end, turn slightly to the left (into Ahornstraße) and then into the forest on a path leading back to the Kalvarienberg Church. At the church descend the steps back to the centre of Bad Ischl.
