Panorama trail
"First a look into history, then to the peaks of the Alps."

From the starting point (1), yellow signs labelled "Panoramaweg" accompany you along the hiking route. After a few metres you come to the "Small Archway" (2), the north portal as the entrance to the former monastery complex. After the small archway, you have the opportunity to visit the ruins of Windhaag Castle (3). (5 min. walk). Once you arrive at the castle ruins a newly built staircase leads up to the keep. From there you have a marvellous view of the Machland and the mountains. Continue through the centre of the village in a northerly direction through the "Großer Torbogen" (4), which used to be the northern exit from the "Moarhof" of the former castle complex of Count Enzmilner.
Before the end of the village sign, the path branches off to the right, you leave the main road and follow the old district road, which is now a residential road and hiking trail. After a few metres the "Enzmilner Kulturwanderweg, Panoramaweg Route II" branches off to the right on this path. Take your time and make a detour (200 m) to the panoramic view. Don't miss out on this magnificent view from the Ötscher to the Traunstein! Now walk back and stay on the marked "Panoramaweg", which after a short time leads from the asphalted settlement road into a well-kept grass path up to the hilltop. Before the forest, two benches (5) invite you to rest and take a look around.
After the hilltop, you come back to the main road. In the bend, you pass the former Knoll inn and after a few metres turn left to the so-called "Schwaigerhäuser"

- the dead end is for motorists only. At the end of the connecting road, turn left onto the "Bauernsteiner" farm track (6) - opposite the Bauernsteiner farmhouse. After a few metres, you have wonderful views of the neighbouring municipality of Allerheiligen (7). After the left-hand bend, two benches on the right invite you to take a rest (8).
This goods path leads through the "Dörfl" district (9) and then in serpentines to a wooded area, where the path forks at the end: continue right on the Panoramaweg - on the left a shorter return path to Windhaag. Even if you go straight on through the forest, you will come back to Windhaag. This  description takes you further along the Panoramaweg through a short
forest section to the two large larches to the left and right of the goods road/resting bench (10) . After a few metres, the panoramic trail branches off to the left, the path leads you past the farm "Großrothmayr" (11) with the riding stable and a wonderful large panoramic picture opens up for you.
Now go straight ahead and downhill to the "Bäckerteich" (12) . This pond probably belonged to "Bäckenhaus" a long time ago. Back then, baker's houses were inns where guests only consumed drinks from the landlord, but took their own snacks from home and received the cutlery from the landlord. At the pond, the path leads you past the transformer on the right to the Rechberger Landesstraße. From here, follow the pavement to the Hoftaverne Holzer tavern and
continue directly into the village centre back to the starting point.
