The section from Schönau im Mühlkreis to the Prandegg castle ruins is ideal for a family hike.

The start is at the village square in Schönau im Mühlkreis. From there, the route leads across lush meadows and the unique Mühlviertel hills towards the Prandegg castle ruins. Along the way, you will pass the Stoaninger Alm speed toboggan run, which invites everyone to sledge down the mountain. You can also stop off at the Staoninger Alm for a drink and a snack.

Once you arrive at your destination, it is highly recommended that you take a tour of the Prandegg castle ruins, either on your own or with a guide (07261/7541 - please book in advance). Children and adults can also learn lots of interesting facts about the history of the castle in the castle museum. Wooden staircases allow a short tour around the castle ruins. From the viewing platform you have a marvellous view of the Aist Valley.

After refreshments in the tavern at Prandegg, you return to the starting point. To do this, take hiking trail no. 81 (Prandegg).
