A somewhat lengthy hike to the mountain summit which gives the range its name on well marked, if rather overgrown paths.

A 5 km hike on the wide Zinkenbach River forest trail leads to a signposted fork to the Osterhorn Mountain, after passing the point where the Schreinbachalm road joins.  The trail leads uphill on a track through the forest on the eastern ridge, to the forest road.  Then, the trail crosses the pasture road to the Zinkeneckalm pastures 3 further times.  The path is steep and very overgrown but well signposted.  A raspberry field needs to be crossed (possible foraging opportunity!) and a small wooded area leads on to the marshy lower meadows and shortly afterwards to the buildings on the Zinkeneckalm pasture.  Cross the steep southern flank of the Zinkeneck Mountain on a slightly uphill path, through dense bushes and later through a wood to the Saddle (1,405m).  From here, the Saurücken ridge (the northeastern ridge of the Osterhorn Mountain) begins, gradually getting steeper and slightly exposed, as it climbs up to a rocky ridge.  Bypass this crag to the right (northwards) on a narrow, exposed path, then over the north facing slope through bushes and high grass to the northern ridge, overgrown with mountain pines.  On this ridge, a good path winds steeply to the metal cross on the summit of the Osterhorn Mountain.
(If you have enough time and energy, the summit of the Hohen Zinken Mountain can easily be reached from here on a wide, undemanding, downhill track through pines on the grassy western ridge, along to the Saddle and over the wide eastern ridge.  An additional hour or so should be allowed to get there and back to the Osterhorn Mountain summit).
The return route to Abersee descends along the same route used to ascend the mountain.
