Mostly flat, easy hike along the oldest pipeline in the world, the brine pipeline from Hallstatt to Ebensee, which has been delivering brine from the salt mine to the salt works since 1607.
Starting point: Rathausplatz, right next to the municipal office, where you will find a sketch of the route on a large board. On the left-hand side along the main road to the "Kaiserbrücke" bridge over the Langbathbach stream - turn right into the pedestrian zone (Marktgasse) - as far as the "Soleweg" junction - first follow the access road, then the hiking trail, Cross the Traun over the "Schülersteg" to the right-hand side of the river - after crossing the railway tracks, turn left - follow the forest road to the "Rechen" (a former log collection point for the timber industry) - Offenseestraße to the Steinkogel railway stop - to the Traun - turn right before the "Rudolfsbrücke" bridge and follow the Plankauweg to the town centre.
At some points, hikers will find signs with information about the themed trail and there is a former "brine parlour" with old photos right next to the brine pipeline trail at the start of the loop.
