The mountaineering tour to mount Drachenwand is the most difficult stage in the context of the "Places of Faith", but at the same time offers a breathtaking panorama over the entire MondSeeLand.
ATTENTION! The mountain tour to mount Drachenwand (Hirschsteig) leads into exposed, high alpine terrain. It is an alpine climb (not a hiking trail!) of the highest level of difficulty. Sure-footedness, a good head for heights, safe movement in exposed terrain, conquering ladders, appropriate shape, alpine equipment and alpine experience are a MUST! Take special care when descending! Please only climb the Hirschsteig if the weather is appropriate. Be sure to pay attention to the weather forecast and exercise extreme caution when wet. Return to the valley immediately at the slightest sign of a storm. Get on the climb at least 5 hours before sunset and allow at least 4 hours for the tour. Children under 14 years or without alpine experience may conquer a simpler mountain.
Unfortunately, climbers die on the Hirschsteig on the Drachenwand every year. The main reason is self-overestimation or poor shape, followed by inadequate equipment and a lack of alpine experience, as well as fear of heights. PLEASE - if you have no experience with such mountains - choose another destination. You will only be back healthy and unharmed from the tour to mount Drachenwand when you have climbed and descended safely. Let us spare our operational organizations, especially our great volunteer members of the Mondseeland mountain rescue service, from these stressful operations.
Thank you very much and enjoy mountaineering around Mondsee and Irrsee!
