Riedegg Castle is situated on an imposing rocky cone at the entrance to the Gusen Valley. The site was particularly suitable for a fortification. Almost the entire rocky cone is surrounded by the Gusen river as if in a ring. The hill also offers a wide view of the Gusen valley and the Gallneukirchen basin.

Starting from the castle, we follow the markings in the direction of Spattendorf. A wide dirt track leads us through a farm entrance and onwards between richly cultivated fields to the forest. Shortly before this, we branch off to the left and walk via Grasbach to Spattendorf. We reach the village of Lindach via forest and field paths. Passing the Pleiner farm, the path then runs through a dense forest and leads via Aich in the direction of Oberweitersdorf. Another steep climb and shortly afterwards we reach our destination, the Affenzeller whisky distillery.
