Next to the beautiful nature the following attractions and highlights may contribute making this tour an unforgetable experience:
In 1150 m at km 11,3 there is located the mountain pasture Ebenalm, for a break maybe to early, but for a second breakfast it is still not to late. Otherwise we pass the turn to the Ebenalm and turn at the next opportunity to the left upwards, where we catch a view to the Hornspitz, our tour from yesterday.
In 1357 m at km 15,8 we reach a crossing, where the trail carries on straight ahead. Here there is the possibility to visit the upland moor Löckermoos. You shall reach that in 2 minutes with the bike and 15 minutes more on foot.
From then on the tour carries on passinge the Grubenalm, the Rossalm and after a steep uphill we reach the highest point of this stage in 1502 m (km 21,2). It is a beautiful place with a great view in both directions. But still we have a long way in front of us reaching our aim of the day. For the beginning the trail carries on with few meters downwards always offering a nice view to the waterfalls, passing the Durchgangalm until we reach after 6,1 km a crossing (874 alt, km 27,3) which we leave to the right. Passing the Klausalm we always tend to the left and pass as well a beautiful waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the region (28,9 km). From now on we go on a tarmac road downwards to Hallstatt. The view to the lake Hallstättersee and to the waterfalls is phenomenal. After about 1,8 km the road ends and at a parking we turn right, which takes us all the way to Hallstatt. (km 32,2). Now the cycle path brings us to Obertraun and after about 3,8 km we cross the river Traun and turn to the left, so we get on the cycle path "Strandbad Obertraun". After 1,3 km we get to the railway, which we do not cross. Here we turn to the left on the cycle path "Ostufer Radweg" (km 37,1) next to the Hallstättersee, which we follow until Bad Goisern. At this point there is again the time for a refreshment in the lake, take your swimming stuff and jump into the lake. Also you will find here nice places to take a break and have a snack.
Please take care of oncoming traffic and hikers. Especially in the area of the holding station (km 39,1) step of the bike and push it during this passage. The cycle path is characterised by its naturalness and is mostly quite narrow.
For those who don't want to go on this trail, it is possible to leave the Untersee Straße at km 45,6 and shorten the tour. The rest follows the cycle path for the next 3,1 km in direction to Bad Goisern until we reach the sign "Radweg verlassen" (km 48,7). To the right 600 meter upwards on a tarmac road until the first turn. Here we turn to the right into the "Shared Trail". The trail is narrow and curvy, but for well trained bikers it should not be an obstacle. After 2 km there is a road which we cross in direction to St. Agatha. Between small houses we reach a crossing (km 51,5) and we turn to the left to a small road called Pichlern, which we will leave again after 600 m to the right (587 alt, km 52,1).
From now the tour leads us constantly upwards in direction to Bad Aussee. We always keep to the right, follow the signs "BergeSeen 5", cross the Leislingbach in 830 m and reach after about 5,3 km the Scheibenstraße (910 alt, km 57,4), in which we turn into to the left and leave it again after 900 m to the right. Now the tour leads us along the nature reserve Waldgraben - Scheibenmoos. After about 1,2 km you can turn to the right. A small path leads you to a beautiful lookout point, the Ruine Pflindsberg, which is an ancient observation tower offering a beautiful view to the Ausseerland.
Now we carry on through the forest until we reach a gate (km 60,2). Here we leave the forest and get to a populated area again. On a tarmac road we follow the signs in direction to Bad Aussee. After 900 m we turn to the left via the area Puchen and the to the right, following the Hauptstraße via the area Lichtersberg. We cross the river Altausseer Traun and turn right after that into the cycle path again. Along the river Altausseer Traun we go ahead for the next 1,3 km, cross the river and soon we shall reach the center of Bad Aussee:
Hint:
There are some possibilities to stop and make a break, where also snacks and drinks are served. But most of them are very close to the beginning of the tour. Therefore it is recommendable to take a small snack with you.
A small snack for the way and a bike lock are also recommendable, especially in case you intent to make a stop at the upland moor.
Depending on the details of your planning, how about a breakfast on one of the traditional wooden boats at the Altausseer See the next morning?
Here our recommendation for tour preparation and equipment.
In Graubünden bikers and hikers share the paths. A project that should set a precedent. But this can only be done with mutual respect. Black sheep throw us back years.
With common rules of play, we ensure that the forest will continue to provide a unique recreational and living space as well as jobs for everyone in the future.
