  • Wildmoos nature reserve towards Saurüssel, where encounters with forest inhabitants may occur,

  • Panoramic views over Irrsee, Mondsee and as far as Salzburg with Untersberg and Stauffen,

  • Downhill Thalgauberg to Thalgau then on to the Rauchhaus and the Hundsmarktmühle with a detour to the ruins of Wartenfels

  • and sunset on the east shore of the Fuschlsee

Directions:

From the center, we follow the route description of stage 1 of the BergeSeen eTrail towards the west shore of the Mondsee. We follow the bike path towards Thalgau before leaving it uphill to the right onto Gaisbergstraße. To our right we now have the panoramic view over the Mondsee with the surrounding mountains, until we turn left at "Am Gaisberg".

We pass under the highway, leave the Erlachmühle snack station to the right, and continue uphill always following the signs towards Hochmoor. Here high above the Mondsee we enjoy the wonderful panorama once again before crossing the Vöckla river near the Wildmoos nature reserve and diving into the forest on the right.

The route is well signposted, which is a must with the many junctions, as otherwise it would be difficult to find the right way. Below the Saurüssel (956m) the path leads over the station (817m) into the Vöcklatal. We turn right onto the Vöcklatal district road (km 22.6) and leave it 100m later after crossing the Vöckla to the left uphill towards Jagdhub. The asphalt road goes only a few kilometers through some hamlets towards Koglerberg. There is absolute silence here. Only the screeching of birds of prey, the roe deer on the way, looking up surprised and then slowly trotting away, disturb the silence.

To the right of the path, before it goes downhill again towards Irrsee, we find an old barn with a weathered bench, inviting us to enjoy the brought snack with a view far into the land towards Innviertel and the summer wood church on the opposite mountain, which will shortly pass us by. But before that, we pass under the B154 road to Oberhofen am Irrsee. Now begins the land of cider taverns and snack stations.

It will be difficult not to stop, since we still have a few things to experience on the way to Fuschlsee. Alternatively, we could now also head to the west shore of Irrsee to possibly take a jump into the lake depending on the season or enjoy a fresh fish. Otherwise, the route continues towards Sommerholz before the forest of Kolomannsberg swallows us and on the left we have the opportunity to visit the ruins of Burg Wildenegg. The path leads steadily uphill and repeatedly offers wonderful panoramic views towards Irrsee and Mondsee, before we come out of the forest at the highest point of the day at 940 m and initiate a turn left towards Salzburg.

Coming out of the forest, the Schober mountain lies directly ahead and in the direction of travel, we see the local mountains of the city of Salzburg: the Gaisberg with Nockstein and the Untersberg with the Stauffen. Now it goes rapidly downhill over Thalgauberg towards Thalgau. We pass under the highway and cross Mondseerstraße to the left, shortly afterwards turning right towards Fuschler Ache to follow the bike path to Thalgau. The route leads us upstream through Thalgau always following the Salzkammergut cycling route until we turn left in the lower village, cross the Brunnbach stream, and follow the signs to Fuschl.

After several turns, it goes uphill again on asphalt, but very low-traffic, on the Riedlstraße until the Rauchhaus appears on the right, which is a must-visit.

The view now extends far into the land again and we see the highest point on the other side of the valley, which we came out of not long ago. The path continues to the Kesselstraße junction, where we turn right downhill, then after a few bends turn left towards Seestraße. Now it goes through the moor at the west end of Fuschlsee and after a few minutes, there is a small snack station to the left of the path before the last climb of the day towards Thalgauegg.

We reach Fuschler Straße L227, turn right and follow it to Fuschl to cool off at the lake or enjoy our dinner in the sunset.

For those who still have enough battery in the legs and on the bike, there is the option to turn left at Thalgauegg towards the ruins of Wartenfels to enjoy the view and then descend to the destination of the first stage.

Tip:

Lunch break at the west shore of Irrsee and sunset feeling like in the Caribbean directly at the destination, the east shore of Fuschlsee.

Safety guidelines:

For a successful, accident-free and exciting day, you will find tips here for the planning before the route.

Equipment:

Please note that any MTB routes must always be tackled with flawless equipment.

Here is our recommendation for tour preparation and equipment.

Additional information:

As new players on the field of mountain and leisure sports, we e-MTB riders are especially obliged to behave appropriately.

In Graubünden, bikers and hikers share the trails. A project that should set an example. But that only works with mutual respect. Black sheep set us back for years.

With shared rules of conduct we ensure that the forest will continue to be a unique recreational and living space as well as a workplace for everyone.
