The Höhen- & Sagenweg trail at the Ewige Wand in Bad Goisern is a unique highlight for the whole family. The trail along the legends of the Salzkammergut is easy to master as there are only a few metres of altitude to climb. A stop at a mountain hut and a fantastic mountain panorama included!
The Legend Trail with lovingly carved figures was opened in 2007 and has since introduced countless children to exciting stories from the Salzkammergut. There are exactly seven legends from the past and the life and development of the Inner Salzkammergut that accompany you on the approximately 1.5 kilometre long trail. Fittingly, there are a number of carved figures to discover
The start is usually at the car park of the Rathlucken Hütte, shortly after the view across to the Ewige Wand, you enter the mystical forest full of legends and stories. The path is also suitable for an all-terrain pushchair. However, the path has remained natural in some places, which means there are larger roots and rocks to overcome. It is not a gravelled path. After all, mum and dad should also earn the subsequent stop at the hut.
On the legend trail you pass one legend after another
From the dying king to the giant crib, there are legends that our great-grandfathers already knew. After all the stories have been read to the children, another highlight follows - the path through the Eternal Wall and its two tunnels.
Although the path is secured by a wire rope railing, children could still slip through if they are careless, so take the little ones by the hand or put them in the pram for safety. Otherwise, it is a level path with a wonderful view.
At the end of the path, after a few steps, it goes down to a rest area with an even better view directly onto the Dachstein Krippenstein.
Those who look particularly closely can also recognise the giant cot as it can be seen from the 5fingers waving over. The same path then takes you back to the car park.
In the year 2022, the legend trail was also supplemented with the story "Treasure of Cordiality" .
Here, children can read the story at three stations along the way, find the water spirit and even find their own way through the colourful pieces of wood, which are supposed to represent the lost gems of the magpie.
General note: The trail is a "shared track". This means that hikers, families, climbers and mountain bikers share this trail. With a little consideration from everyone, it is possible to get along well here too!
Experience a 360° panoramic tour through Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt...
The path is closed in winter when there is a lot of snow.
The starting point of the hiking trail is the car park at the Rathlucken Hütte. This can be reached by car or after a 1 hour and 30 minute hike.
