How to get to the Almtal (to Scharnstein im Almtal):
We recommend that you travel by public transport!
By train: from Wels station with the Almtalbahn (line 153) to Scharntein, Traxenbichl stop, last stop before Grünau im Almtal;
Numerous connections from Wels station to the main trains on the western line (line 101)
by bus: OÖVV bus line 533 Almsee - Grünau - Gmunden, stop Traxenbichl Süd
Return with the Almtalbahn from Grünau im Almtal or if you hike to Gmunden "Unterm Stein" with the Traunstein Taxi Route 10 from the Umkehrplatz stop to Klosterplatz Gmunden, where you can change to the Traunsee Tram in the direction of Gmunden station or in the direction of Vorchdorf. Min. Call the taxi center 1 hour in advance on 050-422 1691 or order on the otaxi app.
by bike: R11 Almtalradweg bike path from Wels to the Almtal valley to Abwz. Traxenbichl in the Hauergraben. Also possible as a MTB route up to the entrance either at the beginning of the forest road or on or off the hiking path to the passage. From there we continue on foot.
By foot: From the center of Scharnstein or Traxenbichl train station, as stated in the directions.
