Schrocken

High alpine and absolutely challenging tour in the Totes Gebirge. Only to be tackled with sufficient mountain experience, some very difficult passages have to be overcome. Once you have reached the summit, there can hardly be a more beautiful view - from the Dachstein, over the Totes Gebirge, the Hohe Nock and the Warscheneck. The Schrocken is an absolute highlight in the hiking diary, but should by no means be underestimated!

The Hinterstoder mountain lifts take you comfortably from the valley up to the Hutterer Höss (1,827 m). Here you already have your destination in sight. Follow trails 40 and 41, past the famous "Schafkogelsee" photo motif through the alpine pastures to the Schafkogel. From there, trail no. 217 takes you in the direction of Schrocken. With the Schrocken summit directly in front of you, the route takes you across the soft alpine pasture ground towards the ridge, which is visible from afar, with breathtaking mountain panoramas on all sides. You may have to overcome some of the exposed sections, but the tricky parts are secured with ropes or chains and offer good support. The route then climbs steadily to the summit. One summit is not enough for you? From the Schrocken, it's not far to the Kreuzspitze (2,327 m) and the Hochmölbing (2,336 m).

How difficult is it?
Sure-footedness and a head for heights are an absolute must. We only recommend an ascent with really sure-footed, mountain-savvy children aged 12 and over.
