POSTALM - TRATTBERG - SALZBURGRING
The town square of Mattighofen usually proves to be a bottleneck, but once this is behind you, the fun begins straight away: at the end of Schalchen, the first winding bends await on the Schnellberg and shortly afterwards up to Maria Schmolln. We continue in the direction of St. Johann am Walde, where we actually enter the forest shortly afterwards. At Frauschereck, we enter the Kobernaußerwald forest and enjoy the ride through the greenery to Höcken. From here, we zig-zag southwards on small roads until we can take our first break in Mondsee on the shores of the lake of the same name.

We then cruise along the northern shore, circle the lake and head towards the next body of water, Lake Wolfgangsee. From its western shore, there is a beautiful view over the village of St. Gilgen, the lake and our further direction of travel. We continue swiftly on the B158 to Strobl, where we are very happy to follow the signposts for "Postalm". Along the Weißenbach stream, we follow the toll road to the Postalm high plateau, the largest contiguous alpine pasture area in Austria and the second largest high plateau in Europe after the Seiser Alm in Italy. We are happy to pay the six euro toll at the toll booth, and the pleasure of the ride definitely justifies the price: the road winds its way up to the plateau at a good 1,100 metres in tight bends, and if you take the road up to car park 3, you are even at almost 1,300 metres. Regardless of which altitude the biker prefers, there are opportunities to stop for refreshments at both levels - in addition to the spiritual one in the Postalm chapel at the top, thanks to the numerous restaurants, especially the physical one ...
As the route continues, however, the very worldly and real impressions return, and they are fantastic: the eye in particular is impressed with grandiose panoramas and views of the surrounding mountains and it is not so easy to concentrate properly on the road. But once safely arrived in Voglau, we don't take the main road to Golling, but instead enjoy stalking our way through the Weitenau to Wegscheid. The next cycling and visual highlight awaits us there: the Trattberg panoramic road! However, we are asked to pay again here; another six euros are due for using the road. But here too, the investment is worth it! We wind our way up the narrow road through the forest, marvelling again and again at the fantastic views. At the Schröck viewpoint, at the very top at 1,500 metres, the panoramic views are easily surpassed: The Tennengebirge and Hagengebirge mountains and, above all, the Dachstein and Bischofsmütze are probably the most famous rock formations that can be seen here.
There are also three mountain huts in the immediate vicinity where you can take a break to recharge your batteries before the descent back to Wegscheid. From here, we continue towards Hallein, but turn off beforehand and wind our way cross-country to Adnet and onto the road to the Wiestal reservoir. Here we have the opportunity to take a worthwhile detour via Krispl and Gaißau. With or without - it doesn't matter, the Wiestal road takes us directly to the Salzburgring, which is definitely worth a short detour. The high-speed racetrack hosted motorbike world championship races from 1970 to 1994 and attracted up to 100,000 spectators per event thanks to the fabulous natural grandstands.
On the rest of the route, we don't get too carried away by the racing flair of the Ring, but keep our speed well within the permitted limits while still keeping things moving quickly. Via Henndorf am Wallersee, past Straßwalchen and Munderfing, we are safely back at our starting point, the KTM Motohall, after a short time - and the tank bag is full of highly enjoyable experiences and impressions ...
