A leisurely bike tour complemented by a long but varied mountain tour. The hike leads from the Hinterer Rettenbach in Roßleithen up to the highest peak in the Sengsen Mountains, the Hoher Nock in the Kalkalpen National Park.

Part of it can also be walked as a loop along the wildly romantic path that leads past the former Koppenalm back into the Budergraben.

BIKE: the leisurely bike tour begins at the sports field in Windischgarsten and leads behind the Roßleithen train station to the Rading district. Through the idyllic Rettenbachtal (cycle path R31) you reach the changing point at the Hinterer Rettenbach hunting lodge after approx. 5.7km and 25 minutes.

HIKE: A path that couldn't begin more beautifully. You cross the Rettenbach and you are already on the path, which immediately and steadily leads uphill through dense forest. 30 minutes later the forest clears up and reveals the first beautiful glimpses of the Budergraben, which, to the delight of ski tourers, is filled with snow well into spring. Where the ditch ends, turn right, cross a wide scree field and reach a marker board at around 1,600 meters.

The path from the Koppenalm, which we want to take on the descent, also ends here. You climb higher through mountain pine alleys, always following marking no. 463 until you reach flatter terrain. The last section of the path leads past vertical cliffs with views down to the Feichtau to the short, steep climb to the summit.

At the top there is a wonderfully green high plateau, inviting enough to linger here for a longer period of time, and many people treat themselves to a relaxing nap after the climb. But the viewing pleasure is not to be despised either, as you have landed in the middle of the Kalkalpen National Park.

You go back on the same path or, as an alternative, you choose the path further west at the summit and follow the path already mentioned over the old Koppenalm.

Hiking trail number: 463
