Open your eyes, music This is the title of this year's International Bruckner Festival Linz, which is all about the interaction between sound and visuals, between music and images, about modernism as "The Visual Age", as the historian Gerhard Paul described it. The impetus for this is provided by none other than Anton Bruckner, or rather: what he is at first glance not is. The still dominant image of Bruckner as the "most absolute of all absolute musicians" (Peter Raabe), who captured his works on music paper seemingly free of extra-musical associations, is contrasted by the festival with the programmatic, pictorial, almost haptic aspects of his music, with which Bruckner exerted an influence on later generations of composers that should not be underestimated.
