80 years of the end of the war in Linz - 1945/2025
The exhibition highlights the ruptures and continuities in Linz at the transition from a wartime to a post-war society, the end of the National Socialist dictatorship and the beginning of a new democratisation. The focus is on the question of what significance history has for us today. What came to an end and what continues to have an impact today? Where and how does remembrance take place in Linz? Who is (not) remembered?"
The exhibition addresses these and other questions with a view to the social and political challenges in Linz after 1945, focussing on the treatment of displaced persons and the housing shortage as well as denazification and coming to terms with the past using the example of Simon Wiesenthal.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the still palpably ambivalent relationship between collective repression on the one hand and the importance of history for democracy and peace on the other.
