With works by Haydn, Mozart and Britten, Josef Sabaini and his Philharmonices mundi show just how diverse the symphonic form can sound.
Not all symphonies are the same. Josef Sabaini and his Philharmonices mundi prove that the most famous of all orchestral genres has produced completely different forms over the centuries and even within one epoch. Joseph Haydn's 48th Symphony in C major, composed in 1769 and only given the popular nickname 'Maria Theresa' after his death, with its gallant melodies and magnificent wind fanfares, seems to spring from a completely different sound world than Wolfgang Amadé Mozart's 39th Symphony in C major, composed less than 20 years later and already pointing the way to Beethoven. Finally, Benjamin Britten's Simply Symphony shows that a symphony needs nothing more than a handful of imaginative melodies that the composer put down on paper at the age of 10 to 12.Untere Donaulände 7, 4010 Linz
