Explore Schärding's rich past with a Schärding guide. The medieval fortified town has been shaped by all eras, but the showpiece is the baroque Silberzeile in the town centre. Gable to gable, an unrivalled ensemble of houses presents itself here: narrow façades, often barely a room wide, squeeze between mighty town houses. Rich merchants once lived here, their pockets full of silver coins, which probably gave the Silberzeile its name. The late medieval guild colours of the houses, the magic of the old gates, the quiet corners and mysterious alleyways still shape the charming character of this small, historic town to this day.
