England meets the red hedgehog

ZRI - Zum Roten Igel, a quintet of English thoroughbred musicians, plays classical music with an ethnic sound and at the same time makes their folk tunes sound like works by the great "ancients".

ZRI stands for "Zum Roten Igel", the pub in 19th century Vienna where Schubert and Brahms both went to listen to folk music. Starting with a radical new arrangement of Brahms' clarinet quintet with accordion and santur, the quartet has developed captivating programmes that reinterpret Schubert's great C major quintet, adventures with Charlie Chaplin, Janacek's "Kreuzersonate" and waltzes by Schönberg.
