Patricia Kopatchinskaja is an exceptional violinist in many respects, who is not satisfied with repeating the familiar, but is constantly in search of new, eye- and ear-opening musical paths. Significantly, together with Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, she presents a no less extraordinary work: Alban Berg's Violin Concerto, which he composed after the early death of the daughter of Walter Gropius and Alma Mahler-Werfel and therefore "To the memory of an angel" dedicated. The work is embedded in a programmatic arc that traces the course of a day: From the impressionistically shimmering D'un matin de printemps (Of a Spring Morning) by Lili Boulanger, who also died young, to Joseph Haydn's only decidedly 'programme symphony' entitled "Le midi" ("Der Mittag") to the transcendence of the 'evening of life' in Richard Strauss' Tod und Verklärung.
