The multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and also the legendary voice of the Yardbirds, John Idan, makes his debut at Lokschuppm with his current formation, the John Idan Group.
John was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, just a few miles from Detroit. From an early age, he showed an interest in music and soon discovered the guitar as his favorite instrument. He began taking lessons at the age of seven. In the following years, he further developed his musical skills and played in several bands in Detroit. When John’s band, "The Natural Blues Band," disbanded, he took a vacation in England, where he met former Yardbirds members Top Topham and Jim McCarty and became the singer and guitarist in their blues band. John played four to five times a week all around London and soon became known as "Detroit" John Idan.
In 1992, John left the McCarty Band, formed "Realfire," and began writing songs. When the Yardbirds reformed in 1994, John was invited to become their lead singer and bassist. So, he left Realfire, set aside his lead guitar, and joined the Yardbirds. Since then, he has recorded two albums with them, Birdland and Live at BB King's, and has toured around the world several times.
Having "switched from pop to blues" at the age of about 15, John developed a great interest in other music styles such as soul, folk, and country over the years. A few years ago, he finally began recording his own songs and can now showcase his great musical talent in his new, fully self-produced debut solo album, "The Folly," which unites all the music he "likes." In 2008, he released his debut solo album "The Folly," on which he plays all instruments himself, except for a string quartet. In the same year, he formed his own band, "The John Idan Group."
