International Brucknerfest Linz 2025. Five days after the composer's 90th birthday, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste will bring Arvo Pärt and his musical cosmos to life in St Mary's Cathedral.
Five days after Arvo Pärt's 90th birthday, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, which is more closely associated with the work of the great Estonian composer than almost any other ensemble and was recently voted one of the ten best choirs in the world by BBC Music Magazine, will bring the cosmos of Arvo Pärt to life in Linz's Mariendom under the direction of its founder Tõnu Kaljuste. The programme traces the special effect of Pärt's unique 'Tintinnabuli' style, with which he creates images and emotions of overwhelming effect; one reason why his compositions have been used in more than 100 films to date. Pärt's choral works - including excerpts from the epochal canon Pokajanen - enter into a dialogue with pieces by Sergei Rachmaninoff, John Tavener and the Estonian composer Evelin Seppar, which complement and expand Pärt's sound cosmos. Or, in the words of Pärt: "One and one make one - not two."
