International Brucknerfest Linz 2025. The Adventures of Prince Achmed The Swiss piano quintet I Salonisti accompanies a pioneering piece of film history: Lotte Reiniger's The Adventures of Prince Achmed premiered in 1926 as the first surviving feature-length animated film.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed is a pioneering piece of film history: it is the first surviving feature-length animated film, conceived by the German silhouette artist and silhouette animation filmmaker Lotte Reiniger. The feature-length film premiered on 2 May 1926 at the Volksbühne in Berlin, so it is now almost 100 years old. In it, various plot motifs from the collection of stories One Thousand and One Nights are interwoven into a captivating plot - flying magic horses, mysterious islands, dwarves, witches and magic lamps are not to be missed. The silent film will be accompanied by the renowned Swiss piano quintet I Salonisti, which became world-famous through its participation in another milestone in film history: in the blockbuster Titanic, the ensemble's musicians played the orchestra on board the ship. On this evening, they will perform the original film music by Wolfgang Zeller in an arrangement for piano quintet - as they did at the premiere of Lotte Reiniger's film in 1926.
