International Brucknerfest Linz 2025. Berlin - The Symphony of the Big City. The sonic.art saxophone quartet provides the live soundtrack to the documentary silent film Berlin - Die Sinfonie der Großstadt from 1926 with works from the time the film was made.

Berlin in 1927, early morning. A steam locomotive makes its way through forests, meadows and residential areas until it finally arrives in the heart of the metropolis. Gradually, the empty streets fill up, people run errands or are on their way to work. The rhythm of the city becomes faster and faster, as do the film cuts between factories, offices, streets and shops. Only at the end of the day does the city come to rest again - people have fun, relax, enjoy fireworks and the view of the newly erected Berlin Radio Tower.

With his revolutionary documentary film, director Walter Ruttmann portrays everyday life in the metropolis of Berlin in the 1920s - a complex organism that has rhythmic, musical, symphonic traits in its processes. The sonic.art saxophone quartet provides the appropriate sound for the Symphony of the Big City with pieces from the 'Roaring Twenties' from Kurt Weill to George Gershwin.
