Musical reading
Saturday, 10 May 2025, 3:00 pmParish Church of St. Georgen

Alfred Polgar: (1873-1955)
"Song with comedy - stories about the depths and shallows of music"

J.S.Bach: (1685-1750)
from the suites for violoncello solo

Matthias Bartolomey: (*1985) original compositions

Karl Markovics, narrator
Matthias Bartolomey, violoncello

All those who were close to Nikolaus Harnoncourt particularly appreciated his profound sense of humour. None other than the great Austrian feuilletonist and storyteller Alfred Polgar, the 70th anniversary of whose death will be celebrated in 2025, is able to express this humour. He is a master at putting this humour into words: in Gesang mit Komödie the mimic transformation skills of a singer are meticulously taken to task, in Orchester von oben Polgar describes the personal marvels of each individual player, the listener is amused by the various ways in which Beethoven's mask can be applied and much more.

Austria's exceptional and quick-change artist Karl Markovics will slip into the most diverse characters, creating the musical bridges Matthias Bartolomey on the cello with his own compositions and music by Bach.
