"After a few days, Mary set off and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea. She went into Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth." (Luke 1:39-40). The meeting of the two pregnant women leads to sung praise: Mary sings the Magnificat, which is still the centrepiece of the evening liturgy of the hours. The Gregorian repertoire for the Feast of the Visitation includes precious texts from the biblical hymnal, the Psalms. They have also been sung in alternation with the organ for many centuries.
