Elisabeth Plank: Lyrics

Elisabeth Plank's artistic interest centres on the fundamental questions of painting. Even when she incorporates graphic elements into her compositions or works in a small format on paper, it is always the concerns and conditions of painting that she deals with intensively and consistently.

Questions of composition, formal balance, but also deliberate breaks, as well as the selection and use of colour, the relationship of motivic layering and different pictorial levels are what preoccupy the painter. In doing so, she succeeds in finding artistic answers that are as individual as they are intuitive, far removed from fashions, currents and trends. Elisabeth Plank effortlessly masters the large format. This can be seen in her numerous large-format works, in which the sovereignty of the creative process is inscribed.

In her first comprehensive museum exhibition at Linz Castle, Elisabeth Plank is showing a selection of works from the last four decades, including several serial cycles. The latest series of works entitled LYRICS, which consists of sixteen large-format paintings, gave the exhibition its title.
