Love of literature in the Gmunden public library
‘Lili in purple’ is the name of a new event format at the Gmunden public library. From March 2025, renowned Austrian authors will present their latest novels. The new reading cycle ‘Lili in lila - Literaturliebe in der lila Literaturhöhle der Stadtbücherei Gmunden’ focuses on Austrian writers, their current works and their love or approach to literature in general. In addition to a reading from the current novel, there will also be enough time for discussion and questions from the audience at each event. The readings will be moderated by journalist Melanie Jungwirth (LESEZEICHEN - Das Literaturmagazin auf salzi.tv). Elisabeth Reichart, who grew up in Upper Austria and whose newly published and completely revised novel ‘Komm über den See’ is also set in Gmunden and focuses on the women resistance fighters in the Salzkammergut region, will kick things off on Wednesday, 19 March 2025 at 7.00 pm. Reichart has been honoured many times, for example with the Austrian Prize of Appreciation for Literature, and often deals with the war in her work, ‘whereby her interest relates to historical persons and contexts, but also to social structures and backgrounds, in a persistent search for clues’, according to the Austrian National Library.
Over the course of 2025, Gertraud Klemm, Katharina Feist-Merhaut and Christian Lorenz Müller will also be guests at ‘Lili in lila’. The public library team welcomes voluntary donations at the entrance. Snacks, drinks and a book table round off the evening. It is possible to reserve a seat in advance.
