The master of the alto saxophone, Allan Praskin, born in Los Angeles, became familiar with modern jazz under the aegis of George Morrow (bassist of the Clifford Brown - Max Roach Quintet).

Through Morrow's instruction, he was able to work with prominent California-based musicians including Bobby Hutcherson, J.R. Monterose and Harold Land. His stylistic openness allowed him virtuosity in a wide variety of playing styles, and he was also active in the jazz scene in the 1970s, including with Sunny Murray, Sam Rivers and Gunter Hampel.
