Family workshop: Sumi-e: Japanese ink painting for all ages

"Sumi" means black ink in Japanese and  "e" means painting. 

This painting is the art of drawing objects and themes in ink with a Chinese or Japanese brush - the unpainted areas are just as important as those painted in different shades of grey. The ink diluted with water ranges from deep black to light grey. In sumi-e, we primarily paint the four "nobles": the plum (spring), the orchid (summer), the chrysanthemum (autumn) and the bamboo (winter). We will also practise drawing clouds and dragons.
