Obertraun Mountain Moments - sunrise trip to the summit of the Krippenstein in Autumn

The special trip with the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car in Obertraun is an ideal start for hikes and mountain tours in the extensive Dachstein massif.

... of the mountain gondola sway gently as we make our way up to the summit. On the horizon, mountain summit after mountain summit begin to glow red. As we reach 2.100 m above sea level, you might ask yourself where the word „Morgengrauen“ (morning gray) comes from. It is more like a „morning red“ which becomes stronger and brighter as the sun rises like a giant red fire ball. At this moment the sun is so bright  you can still see it with your eyes closed. If you turn your back on the sun and look towards the Dachstein, the view is equally as impressive. One by one, the summits of the Dachstein, the glacier, the Dirndln, the Koppenkarstein and many others become visible, bathed in gentle sunlight.  A new day has begun, a little cloud hovers gently over the Dachstein massif, and just behind are little shadows.

One of the most beautiful hikes is the Heibronner Rundwanderweg, which leads from the Gjaid Alm, past the Dachstein Hai, back to the Krippenstein.
