The Breitenstein is surrounded by an extensive recreational forest. Here you are constantly on the move. You can hike the Breitenstein, climb it in the high ropes course or explore it with bow and arrow in the archery centre. In winter, the curling rinks are a popular meeting place to enjoy a barbecue. The Ferngas observation tower offers a wonderful view, also interactively via the 2 webcams.
The viewing tower is located at the highest point of the Breitenstein at 945 metres above sea level and offers a 360° view over the entire Mühlviertel and the foothills of the Alps as far as the mountains from Schneeberg to Ötscher via the Phyrn Eisenswurzen, the mountains of the Salzkammergut to the Mondseer Land.
There are two webcams on the tower, one facing south and offering an unobstructed view over the town square of Kirchschlag down to Linz and the mountains on the northern edge of the Alps. The second camera faces north towards the Sterngartl area.
